New Regulation for Salvadoran SMEs

The proposed bill includes technical requirements and production quality standards for Small and Medium Enterprises.

Mario Cerna, Commerce and Industry vice ministry, explained that the bill is currently in its final draft.

"The law will include technical regulations, goods and services standards, and quality certification for companies. It will help us build a quality system through a number of institutions", stated Cerna, according to Laprensagrafica.com.

The Ministry of Economy has launched a National Quality Policy which aims to turn El Salvador into a more competitive country.

El Salvador: $4 Million in Centers for SMEs

$4 million have been earmarked for the initial development of the so-called CDMYPES, or Centers for the development of Micro and Small Companies (SME).

The announcement was made by Mario Cerna, vice minister of Commerce and Industries, noting that these centers should be open by the end of 2010.

El Salvador Introduces Bill for SMEs

The preliminary draft presented by the Ministry of Economy aims to create a favorable environment for Small and Medium Enterprises.

The sector represents 99.4% of companies established in the country, demonstrating their importance in the national economy. Within this percentage, there are 463.803 micro family businesses, 148.574 micro and 13.208 small enterprises.
