New Touristic Pier Being Studied in Honduras

Cooreia, the company who built a cruise ship pier in the Island of Roatan, is analyzing the construction of a touristic pier in Omoa.

For this they held meetings with officials from the National Port Company (ENP).

“Mohand Merzkany, financial coordinator at the ENP, confirmed there are several cruise ship companies interested in pier in Omoa, due its advantageous natural conditions”, reported Tiempo.hn.

Some 200 ships will arrive in Roatan on a yearly basis, once the new cruise ship dock starts operating in October 2009.

The liberal congressman for the Bay Islands Department, Jerry Hinds, said that once it is inaugurated it will provide services to cruise ship companies throughout the entire year, and should bring around 200 ships with tourist to Roatan per year.

Carnival Corporation's $70 million cruise ship pier was inaugurated in Mahony Bay.

With the new facility, the company can accommodate two 4.500 passenger ships simultaneously.

Ana Abarca, Tourism Minister, told Laprensahn.com: "...if Carnival's projections prove correct, we will receive some 500.000 tourists from cruise ships. This would imply sales for $850 million, as every tourist spends an average $107 in the country".

$20 million for Roatan, Honduras

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will increase its investment in the new cruise ship terminal which is under construction by 100%.

At the moment the company has invested $12 million to build 17 commercial units that can withstand a category 4 and 5 hurricane, and parking.
Royal Caribbean Cruise will invest more than $20 million in the second phase to build more commercial units, a restaurant with a view of the sea, a second parking lot, food court and hotel.

New Cruise Ship Port in Roatán Opens in November

The second cruise ship port in the Bay lslands will open on November 20, after a $62 million investment.

It is the first phase of Carnival Cruise Line's project in Roatán, and boasts 7.000 constructed square meters, including commercial space.
