Nicaragua Closes 2011 with 7.95% Inflation

Inflation in December recorded a monthly variation of 1,21% and 7.95% for the year.

In 2010, according to official Central Bank of Nicaragua, inflation reached 9.23%, the highest in Central America.

"The Central Bank indicated that the pattern of last December's inflation was marked mainly by increases in the areas of recreation and culture, food and non alcoholic beverages, restaurants and hotels, clothing and footwear, and other fuels.

Nicaragua plans to close 2012 with a growth of 3.5%, with inflation in the single digits", reported Prensalibre.com.

Nicaragua Inflation Reached 6.66% in November

The monthly variation in November was 1.25% with an accumulated inflation of 6.66%, according to the Central Bank.

The national CPI showed a variation of 1.25 percent in November (1.55% in the same month of 2010), derived from increases of 1.27 percent in the rest of the country and 1.24 percent in Managua.

The consumer price index continues to show slower growth in Costa Rica. There was an increase of 0.17% in June.

In interannual terms, the indicator rose 8.2%. The accumulated variation in the first six months of this year was 1.21%, smaller than the 6.55% increase during the same period last year.

The increase in the price of basic grains and fuel has caused the consumer price index (CPI) to reach its highest level since the country dollarized its economy and the highest in the last 12 years.

These high levels of the CPI coincide with the period in which petroleum also reached all-time record highs, above $147 per barrel in July.

Costa Rica Closes 2011 with 4.74% Inflation

According to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), the yearly variation (January-December 2011) is 4.74%, which is less than the variation in 2010 (5.82%).

From the press release by the INEC:

The general level of the consumer price index in December was 149.862, which represents a variation of 0.92% compared with the index for the month of November (148.502).
