Nicaragua Exports Yucca to Honduras

Dinant Corporation began buying yucca from rural producers in the Leon municipality.

On their website, Nuevo Diario states: “The first container was sent last Monday with 360 quintals of peeled and refrigerated yucca to DINANT Corporation in Honduras, dedicated to making chips. The established contract with this corporation is a product of the support provided by Cuenta Reto del Milenio (CRM), Nicaragua, to the yucca producers in Leon, in the search and consolidation of better markets.”

Nicaragua: Poultry Industry does not Support Chicken Import

Buying abroad could affect the sector, which accounts for 3% of the GDP in Nicaragua.

In order to lower the cost of chicken meat in the country, the government plans to import the product for domestic consumption.

This measure, however, is not viewed favorably by the Association of Small and Medium Poultry Producers of Nicaragua (APEMEP) who believe that it could have a negative effect on its activity.

Nicaragua to Import Milk Powder

Given the rise in the price of milk, the government will present to the sectors involved a proposal to import milk powder in quantities and origin to be determined.

The Minister of Development, Industry and Trade (MIFIC) Orlando Solorzano, said his proposal provides that the same processing plants that import milk powder will then sell it in liquid form.

Nicaragua to Buy Wheat from Russia

The country is negotiating with Russia the purchase of 100.000 tons of wheat to supply poultry farms.

With this initiative, the Ministry of Industry and Trade seeks to reach an agreement with the National Association of Poultry Producers (ANAP) for a reduction in the price of chicken meat.

Costa Rica Assesses Potato Import Restrictions

The Ministry for Agriculture and the Costa Rican chamber of potato growers (CCPP in Spanish) believe that the market's current status merit discussions on government intervention by restricting potato imports.
