Nicaragua: New Market for Dairy Producers

Centrolac and spokespersons from the Millennium Challenge signed an agreement for commercializing milk by western producers.

In the first phase, Centrolac plans to purchase 5 million liters of milk, meaning over $1.850.000 for livestock breeders.

"Under this agreement, producers will deliver their milk through milk collection centers known as CAL, which are associated to the Millennium Challenge program. This way, producers have a secure market, with stable prices during winter and summer", reported newspaper El Nuevo Diario.

The web portal Laprensahn.com published: "To make this initiative a reality which would generate employment in the Aguán Valley, milk producers from this municipality have met with producers in the department of Colón as well as representatives from the Tocoa Chamber of Commerce several times to refine the details of what would be the processing plant."

Milk Production Drops 50% in Nicaragua

The country's milk production has dropped to 500.000 monthly liters, 50% less than the same period of 2008, due to severe droughts.

Faganic, the Livestock Breeders Association of Nicaragua, called on the Government to implement measures to help combat the sector's crisis.

Panama: Industrias Lácteas to Construct Dairy Factory

The dairy produce company will invest between $60 and $80 million in this project, according to Panama America.

Frank Tedman, head of operations for the company known for its Estrella Azul ("Blue Star") brand, told the newspaper that the factory's design and layout had been finalized and the methods chosen for processing the milk.
