Odebrecht and Impregilo Submit Bids for Panama Metro

Only two consortiums have presented offers for the design and construction of the first line of the Panama Metro.

The consortium led by Impregilo also includes Astaldi, Ghella and Ansaldo Breda Trains, while that led by Odebrecht also comprises Spanish owned FCC Construcción and Alstom Trains.

A third consortium, "Consorcio CIMA", made up of Acciona, Mitsubishi and ICA, did not tender for the contract valued between $1 and $1.5 billion.

In addition, Panama's president, Ricardo Martinelli, has asked the Metro Secretariat to begin preparations for the second metro line bid.

Three Consortiums Qualify To Build Panamanian Metro

Consortiums CIMA, “Línea Uno” and “Grupo Italiano Metro Panamá” complied with the requirements to bid for the Project.

These consortiums are composed as following:
CIMA:

ACCIONA INFRAESTRUCTURAS, S.A. (52%) - Spain
MITSUBISHI CORPORATION (12%) - Japan
MITSUBISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES, LTD. (12%) - Japan

Panama Reaffirms Prequalified Metro Consortiums

The metro secretary accepted the recommendations issued by the evaluation committee.

In doing so, it reaffirmed the three prequalified consortiums: CIMA, LINEA UNO and GRUPO ITALIANO METRO PANAMA.

The consortiums break down as follows:

CIMA:
ACCIONA INFRAESTRUCTURAS, S.A. (52%) - Spain

Panamanian Metro Bid Will be Opened on October 29

October 2010

On that date, the opening of envelopes containing the proposals submitted by consortiums will take place.

The companies which submitted bids are Consorcio Line One, composed of FCC and Norberto Odebrecht Construction with Alstom trains, and the Italian Group Metro Panama, consisting of Impregilo, Astaldi and Ghella with Ansaldo Breda trains.

"Grupo Unidos por el Canal", the consortium in charge of building the third set of locks at the Panama Canal, would tender for the metro.

The consortium, comprising Spain's Sacyr, Italy's Impregilo, Belgium's Jan de Nul and Panama's "Constructora Urbana", would present a proposal in the next months, according to an article in Laestrella.com.pa.
