Offers in for Final Stretch of "Longitudinal del Norte" Highway

Six companies have bid to construct Section 3B of the Salvadoran highway that traverses the north of the country.

The participating companies presented offers of between $20 and $31 million include Astaldi, FCC Cosntrucciones, Constructora Santa Fé and Equipos de Construcción.

"The project comprises the design and construction of the works required for the project to run efficiently and deliver a functioning highway that, 'improves the infrastructure network in the north of El Salvador between Guarjila and the "Nombre de Jesús" bridge'. It will be carried out in two stages: design and construction," reports Diariocolatino.com.

José Ángel Quirós, Executive Director of Fomilenio, the country's Millenium Fund, said he expects the evaluation process to be completed in September so that the contract can be awarded.

The bidding for the second section (13.4 km) of the Longitudinal Highway North was opened.

There were six companies that made bids: MNV S.A. Gaskapital GRSA Consortium, the Italian company ASTALDI S.p.A., Constructora Santa Fe, Meco, CPK Consultores and SBI International Holding.

A new stretch of the 'Longitudinal del Norte' highway, dubbed '2B1', will be developed by builder Santa Fe Ltda., and finished October 2010.

It runs from Santa Rosa Guachipilín, in Santa Ana, to El Matazano in Chalatenango, extending over 7.8 km, with 2 lanes of 3.25 meters each.

The consortium of Constructora MECO, SBI International, Santa Fe-CODOCSA, Astaldi, Consorcio Vial Fomilenio y Corporación M&S presented the proposals for the North Longitudinal construction project.

Elsalvador.com reports: “The proposals included a range of $29 million to $40 million for asphalt concrete; meanwhile, in the case of hydraulic concrete, the proposals were from more than $35 million to a little more than $44 million, as was recorded in the meeting minutes signed by the representatives of Fomilenio and participating construction companies.

Bids for stretch 5 of the "Longitudinal del Norte" highway range from $24.6 million to $41.7 million.

Construction will begin January 2010, and is expected to last for 22 months, explained José Ángel Quirós, Fomilenio's executive director.

Laprensagrafica.com reports: "The lowest priced bid was submitted by company 'FCC Construcción de Centroamérica S.A.', at $24.6 million for concrete asphalt.
