Palmerola Airport to begin operations in August

President Manuel Zelaya has announced that Honduras' fifth international airport, at Palmerola, will start operations on August 2, when the United States will close down its military operations there.

The president said that in two weeks he will sign an agreement with the United States based on an agreement dating back to May 1957, that established the military support that Washington has provided for 51 years.
"Honduras has the sovereignty, right, liberty and property to take actions that we consider are best for Palmerola," he said.

Honduran airport reopened for international flights

July 2008

The Honduran government authorized the immediate reopening of Tegucigalpa's Toncontín airport for flights by large passenger aircraft.

President Manuel Zelaya, who ordered the partial closer of Toncontín in the wake of a recent fatal accident, signed the reopening accord with business leaders who had been calling for it.

Honduras: Palmerola Air Base to Become Airport

President Porfirio Lobo announced the upcoming habilitation of the air base in Comayagua as a commercial airport.

He added that the feasibility of the project relies on the construction of a highway linking Comayagua with Tegucigalpa.

The Honduran President also explained that the project would be developed as a public/private initiative, in which works on the airport would be done as the highway project progresses.

Banesco looking to expand

The bank is planning to start operations in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic in the first quarter of 2009.

According to Alberto De Armas, executive president of the Venezuelan bank, they would offer banking services in both countries to meet the needs of consumers in those markets.

Port La Unión Accredited to Operate

April 2010

El Salvador received nautical charts covering the port and its surroundings, which will be certified by the National Registry.

These charts were supplied by the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency of the United States. Once they are certified by the Registry they will be distributed internationally.
