Panama: Alimentation Companies Form Alliance

SODEXO and Niko's Café have established a strategic alliance to provide food services.

With a joint investment of $500.000, both companies will offer alimentation services in 'distant communities' of the country, where important projects are being developed, explained SODEXO's executive president.

From Pa-digital.com.pa: "One of SODEXO's clients is the consortium 'Grupo Unidos por el Canal', who is in charge of building the third set of locks of the Panama Canal. The food company expects to generate 600 direct jobs".

Companies Bid for Feeding at Prisons

December 2009

5 companies submitted bids for a $34 million contract comprising feeding inmates at two Panamanian prisons.

The contract comprises feeding inmates and prison staff at the penitentiaries of Panama and Colon from January 1st, 2010, to December 31st, 2012.

"The companies are Niko’s Café, Alimentos Prácticos, Copase, Grupo Cesarín and Nelson Café Peatonal", reported Prensa.com.

5.9% Decrease in Panamanian Service Exports

For the first quarter, there were $2.68 billion exported; $169 million less than during the same period in 2008.

The areas that dropped the most were banking services and re-exports from the Colón Free Trade Zone.

Prensa.com published data from the General Accounting Office: "These declines could not be offset by income from the Panama Canal or service exports related to tourism and port and logistics sectors, which maintained increases of 11%, 8.7% and 1.6% respectively."

An Incipient Services Industry in Honduras

Companies from the United States are investigating the availability of bi-lingual personnel, which would enable the installation of customer service call centers.

Similar to other countries in the region, Honduras has a U.S. compatible time zone and a close geographic location.

Panama Invites Bids for $34 Million Food Contract

November 2009

The project comprises supplying food for jailed convicts and their guardians.

According to the bidding rules, the contractor will have to service prisons located in the provinces of Panama and Colón, between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2012.

Bids must be submitted before December 14, 2009, at the offices of the Ministry of Government and Justice.
