Panama Extends Power Plants Rental

The state has extended the lease on the Aggreko power plants until October.

Low levels in reservoirs and the postponement in the start of operations of the AES Changuinloa hydroelectric plant until September, have led to the extension of the lease.

"The original contract for one year costs $55.5 million and expired in March, but the Cabinet approved a three month addendum that expires in June at a cost of $14 million", noted an article in Prensa.com, "with the extension of the contract, another $14 million would probably have to be paid."

AES Seeks Permission for Gas Power Plant in El Salvador

The company is working on updating its environmental permits in order to build the plant that will generate energy from natural gas.

The power station will have capacity to generate 550 MW and require an investment of $970 million.

AES has also begun the search for manufacturers and construction companies to help build the plant.

$600 million for coal plant in El Salvador

The cost of the coal plant that the AES Fonseca company will build at the future La Union Port will be some $600 million.

The cost of construction, which is slated to start at the end of January or early February, increased due to high steel prices, according to Neil Watlington, AES Fonseca director.

Terra from Honduras to Build Power Plant in Peru

Terra Group has announced that as part of its expansion plans, it will be participating in the construction of a power plant in Peru, valued at $128 million.

The Peruvian Agency for Promotion of Private Investment (ProInversión) on Thursday awarded the Argentinan-Spanish Cobra–Enersa consortium the concession for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a thermoelectric generation plant in the town of Eten in Lambayeque.

Nicaragua inaugurates 20-megawatt power plant

A new power plant generating 20 megawatts of power was inaugurated on the weekend by President Daniel Ortega.

Blackouts should become rarer with the installation of three made-in-Korea power generation plants in Tipitapa, Masaya and Managua. Once they are all operational, the three will produce another 60 megawatts for the national power grid.
