Panama: Five Companies Intrested in Metro Administration

A total of five consortiums have submitted proposals to manage and provide technical support for the construction and operation of the Panama Metro.

The lowest price offered came from Barcelona's Metropolitan Transport consortium - Aguas y Estructuras S.A, at $27.97 million. Next was the Técnica y Proyectos S.A. bid of $30.42 million, followed by tenders of $34.43, $35.47 and $37.9 million from MetroPan, Consorcio Gerencia Metro Panamá and SNC-Lavalin International Inc respectively.

Roberto Roy, Metro Secretary, said that it will take five days to review the bids with the winner due to be announced on 16 August. On 17 August the invitation to tender for the construction project will be launched.

Best Bid to Manage Panamanian Metro is Spanish

The consortium composed of Barcelona's Metro, Ayesa and Inelectra obtained the best score for their offer to manage Panama's Metro Project.

In addition to the TMB-AYESA-INELECTRA consortium bid, the proposals presented by TYPSA and the METROPAN consortium also met the minimum tender requirements.

6 Consortiums Bidding for Panamanian Metro

IDB and CAF announced the six consortiums pre-selected for advising through the entire Metro project.

These are URS Holdings Inc. (U.S.A.), Parsons-Brinkerhoff (U.S.A.), Metro de Madrid (Spain) , Metro de Barcelona (Spain) , COTEBA (France) y POYRY/Cal y Mayor y Asociados (Switzerland and Mexico), informed Roberto Roy, executive secretary of the Panamanian Metro.

Complaint Received for Pamana Metro Tender

September 2010

The Panama Metro Management (GMP) consortium has presented a complaint to the country's public acquisitions directorate.

The consortium took part in the invitation to tender for the management of Panama's metro project together with four other companies but was disqualified.

Still no Management for Panama Metro

October 2010

A month ago the Metro Department ordered the evaluation committee to review the proposals, but the winner of the management contract has not yet been decided.

"The committee submitted a report on the 24th of August, giving the highest score to a consortium led by Spanish companies Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona and Ayesa, but errors where identified ..."
