Panama: Inflation at 6.5% in June

The recording is the highest in the last two years as a result of rising prices for transportation, food and beverages.

The change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June compared to May 2011 showed an increase in the National Urban of 0.1 percent and Other Urban 0.8 percent, and for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito a decrease of 0.1 percent.

Compared to June 2010, there was a growth of 6.5 percent in both National Urban and the districts of Panama and San Miguelito and 6.6 percent in other urban areas.

In June compared to May 2011, five of the nine divisions that make up the National Urban CPI, recorded increases in their prices, most notable were: transportation with 1.1 percent, due to an increase in the price of auto insurance, Clothing and footwear with 0.8 percent, generated by commercial factors, mainly the rise in the price of dress pants for men; Miscellaneous goods and services with 0.5 percent as a result of an increase in the price of women’s purses, Health by 0.3 percent, attributed to the rise in the price of health insurance, housing, water, electricity and gas with 0.1 percent, driven by increases in the price of plumbing services. However, the following sectors experienced decreases: Food and beverages of 0.4 percent, due to the decline in the price of canned goods, Leisure, recreation and culture services by 0.3 percent, caused by the decrease in the price of package tours and Teaching with 0.1 percent, due to a decrease in the price of personal computer equipment. Remaining unchanged, were the Furniture, household equipment and routine house maintenance sectors.

Nicaragua Inflation Reached 6.66% in November

The monthly variation in November was 1.25% with an accumulated inflation of 6.66%, according to the Central Bank.

The national CPI showed a variation of 1.25 percent in November (1.55% in the same month of 2010), derived from increases of 1.27 percent in the rest of the country and 1.24 percent in Managua.

According to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), the yearly variation (January-December 2011) is 4.74%, which is less than the variation in 2010 (5.82%).

From the press release by the INEC:

The general level of the consumer price index in December was 149.862, which represents a variation of 0.92% compared with the index for the month of November (148.502).

Costa Rica: March Inflation at 0.24%

The consumer price index increased 0.24% in March, a rise of 2.57% so far 2010.

Alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, dining out, rent and housing services increased the most.

El Financiero reports: “Inter annual variation (April 2009 – March 2010) stood at 5.84%, 6.48 points less than the previous year (12.32%)”.

This low level of price increases is mainly due to less economic activity.

12-month inflation, a measure of the variation of prices when compared to one year ago, is at record lows. However, in the last two months the average price increase has been 0.78%, considerably above the 0.2% average for the first half of the year.
