A press release from the Presidency of Panama reads:
President Ricardo Martinelli arrived on Sunday, December 4, at the city of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, to attend the opening ceremony of the Second Pacific Alliance Summit, where Panama will be present as an observer.
The Panamanian president said that Panama is optimistic about joining this Pacific alliance and mentioned they hope to finalise as soon as possible the Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Colombia to forge this union. Similarly, Martinelli invited the president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, to get directly involved, as will Martinelli , in the electricity interconnection project between Panama and Colombia in order to finish the project by 2014.
"Panama continues to maintain strong economic growth and estimates are that this trend will be maintained", President Martinelli said during his speech at the summit.

With the implementation of a series of projects to help increase performance and to establish strategic alliances, exporters are looking to increase the performance of small and medium companies.
Enrique Zamora, President of the Association of Nicaraguan Exporters and Producers (APEN), said that next week they will travel to Mexico to settle a project with the EU that will help to internationalize their products to 2 thousand small and medium businesses in Central America.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) and the Georgia Port Authority renewed their strategic alliance for three more years.
Areas of cooperation include joint marketing, exchange of information and technology, market studies, expansion plans, and training, according to a release from the ACP.
