Panamanian Breweries to Invest $35 Million

Breweries “Barú Panamá” and “Nacional” will invest to enlarge their production facilities and improve their sales infrastructure.

Etienne Strijp, CEO of “Cervercería Barú Panamá”, explained they will expand the factory due to increased demand for the product (26% in 2009 vs 2008).

Paulo Loo, national sales director at “Cervecería Nacional”, commented that their planned investment for 2010 is above $20 million. From this, over half will be used to modernize the production facility and the remainder will be used to improve points of sale, enlarge the truck fleet and acquire new technologies.

Panama Starts Production of Miller Lite Beer

The National Brewery announced a $ 5 million investment to start production of Miller Lite beer.

Through the National Brewery (CN), Panama has become the first authorized country to produce Miller Lite beer outside of the United States market.

Fernando Zavala, president of CN, told Prensa.com "What we are seeing is the effort of almost a year´s work” showing pride in the company's 1,700 workers achieving a new victory in their production chain.

Multimillion dollar investments improving production plants and advertisements are showing excellent results.

Between 2006 and 2010, beer production increased by 53 million liters annually. In the first 7 months of 2010, 131.5 million liters of beer were produced which means on average each Panamanian adult drinks 9.5 liters of beer per month.

In 2010, the industry produced 235 million liters of beer, 2.3% higher than 2009.

The increase in production has been accompanied by large investments by the country´s two breweries.

"Cervecería Nacional invested $ 5.3 million to increase production capacity by 20% and to produce Miller Lite beer for the first time in Panama," Prensa.com reported.

The Baru Panama Brewery received the Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves award.

This is one of the most prestigious awards in the world for beer quality in which they won for outstanding beer quality.
This is the highest award given by 'Monde Selection', said the world's oldest and most important food and drinks quality certification institute, headquartered in Brussels.
