Panamanian Economy to Grow 8%-9% in 2011

President Martinelli remarked that Panama will be the most dynamic Latin American economy in 2011, growing between 8% and 9%.

While presenting a state of the nation report to Congress, he noted that the country’s growth projections are higher than those of Chile and Peru.

Martinelli explained that this performance will be achieved on the back of $13 billion in state investment (excluding the Canal), creating 34.000 jobs in three years.

Panama's growth to be between 7% and 8%

The consulting firms Indesa and Deloitte estimate that Panama's economy will grow by seven to eight percent this year.

This is slower than the 11.2 percent growth in 2007, with a pattern similar to that of the period 2004-2006.
Some international firms, like the Economist Intelligence Unit, are forecasting even higher growth and are predicting that Panama will again be the fastest-growing economy in Latin America this year.

Nicaraguan Economy Grows by 5%

Government authorities have announced that in the first quarter of 2011 there was growth of 5.3% compared to the same period in 2010.

The rise according to a report by the Council of Communication and Citizenship is a result of growth in private and public investment and the value of exports (14.6%).

Panama's Economy Growing at Double-Digits

During the second quarter of 2011, Panama's economic growth was 11.4%, reaching 10.3% during the first six months of the year.

A statement from the Panamanian Ministry of Economy and Finance reads:

Panama's economic growth for the second quarter of 2011 was 11.4% and in the first half was 10.3%, as reported by the minister of Economy and Finance, Frank De Lima, citing figures from the Controller General of the Republic.

Panama estimates that economy will grow 7.5% in 2009

The Panamanian economy is likely to increase its growth slightly next year due to the international financial crisis, lower exports to the US and a slowdown in the real estate industry.

The Panama economy will grow 7.5% in 2009 down form the 9.5% estimated for this year, the minister of Economy and Finance, Hector Alexander said to Reuters.
