Panamanian Insurer Ventures into El Salvador

ASSA Compañía de Seguros S.A, which has operations to date in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, has begun operating in El Salvador with an investment of $3.2 million.

ASSA Compañía de Seguros S.A, a Panamanian company, started operations in El Salvador with an initial investment of $3.2 million, according to El Diario de Hoy.

ASSA has secured 85 percent of the value of contracts for the development of the extension of the Panama Canal. According to the newspaper, it aims to gain 8 percent of the Salvadoran insurance market in the medium term.

Its business portfolio includes group life insurance, personal accident and all general insurance products to protect its policy holders against fire, vehicle accidents and other hazards.

Pan American Life Authorized to Operate in Costa Rica

Pan American Life Insurance Costa Rica S.A. was authorized to operate by Sugese, the Insurance Superintendence.

The insurance company requested authorization on September 2009, and has now become the sixth to enter the Costa Rican market.

“The authorization does not imply its immediate operation, it must sill comply with other requisites established in the Insurance Market Law”, reported Elfinancierocr.com.
