Petrogolfo Plans Refinery in El Salvador

The U.S. company plans to build a refinery for $600 million in Acajutla which will process up to 40 thousand barrels of oil.

Petrogolfo, a U.S. company in the energy sector, plans to relocate a center in Texas and open a $600 million refinery that will process from 30 thousand to 40 thousand barrels of oil a day, and has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mayor of the City of Acajutla, El Salvador.

Once plans have been finalized, construction of the plant will take about 26 months, local officials told ElSalvador.com.

Jorge Rodriguez, vice president of the Association of Service Station Dealers (Adepetro), said "the company's vision is to turn El Salvador into a self-sufficient country regarding the demand for petroleum products, and to meet regional demand", he is quoted as saying on the website.

Guatemala: Refinery and alliances with Petrobras

Oil Refining Plant in Guatemala

Based on the country's prospected oil potential, Ivanhoe Energy and Cobán Oil & Gas are proposing to invest $250 million.

Both companies signed a letter of intent for joint investments of $250 million and reported that they expect to finish the process in 30 months, sign an investment agreement, and then start building the plant.

Panama Increases Gas Consumption by 14%

From January to August, fuel consumption increased 14.5% over the same period of 2009.

According to the Comptroller General of the Republic, Panama also saw a 49% increase in imports of petroleum products.

"... From January to August 2010, 575 million 552,000 gallons of fuel were consumed. During the same period last year, 502 million 727 thousand gallons were consumed," Pa-digital.com.pa reports.
