Progress on Braswell Shipyard Tender

Nine companies and consortia participated in the preliminary meeting for the tender of a shipyard in Balboa, convened by the Panama Maritime Authority.

Representatives of nine companies and consortia, among them nationals and foreigners, attended the meeting for the approval of the specifications of the best value tender for the provision and operation of Braswell Shipyard in Balboa, reported Prensa.com.

" Talleres Industriales, Fagar, S.A., Mec Group, IBT, Astican, Chartis National Union, Sociedad Latinoamericana de Inversiones, Consorcio Astilleros Navales Balboa y YT Halter Marine took part in the meeting which was held yesterday (January 24th ) as part of the tender process", according to the website.

The tender was announced on December 28th and the date for submission and opening of proposals is 13th of February. In late 2011, the Panamanian government did not grant an extension to the concession sought by the Spanish company Braswell, who had managed the site.

The three companies that participated in the tender called by the Panama Maritime Authority have been disqualified for "not meeting requirements."

The consortium Panamá Drydock, consortium Astillero del Pacífico (Astipac) and Talleres Dry Docks were the companies that did not meet the requirements for the award, according to an evaluation by the commission of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).
