Remittances in Honduras exceed $2 billion

Honduran economic authorities and international agencies warn that the impact of the United States financial crisis is reflected with greater strength in the remittances in 2009.
The BCH calculates that in 2008 the total remittances will reach about 3 billion dollars.

The Central Bank of Honduras (BCH) estimates that in 2009 the growth in remittances will be 0% compared to this year.

As of December, the BCH estimates that income from remittances will be $2.7 billion, an increase of between 8 to 9% compared to the same period in 2007.

Remittances sent to Honduras totaled $2.7 million, according to the Central Bank of Honduras (BCH).

Proceso Digital reports on its website: "Despite the increase, it was less in 2007-2008 than in 2006-2007, when it was 11.6%, it was said.

Honduran economic authorities had forecast the drop in the growth rate for remittances due to the unemployment that is affecting more and more Hondurans due to the crisis in the United States.
