Remittances to El Salvador approach $2 billion

Families in El Salvador received about 1.94 billion dollars through remittences from family members living abroad during the first six months of this year, according to the nation's Central Reserve Bank.

This is about 120 million dollars more than the amount sent home in 2007.
Just in the month of June remittences totaled 334.4 million dollars, a 7.9 percent increase over June of last year.

Remittances to El Salvador rise to $353.4 million

Remittances that foreign-based Salvadoreans send home to their families grew by 4.6 percent last may and reached 353.4 million dollars.

The Central Reserve Bank said in a press release that this compares with the 338 million dollars sent home in May 2007.
Remittances have also increased on a year-to-date basis. They rose 6.3 percent between January and May, to a total of 1.604 billion dollars.

Remittances to El Salvador surge to US$1.25 billion in year through April

Remittances from emigrants to their families in El Salvador reached US$1.25 billion in the first four months of this year, a 6.9 percent increase on the same month of 2007, the nation's central bank, the BCR, reported.

The rate of increase is speeding up, the BCR added. In April remittances came to US$338.5 million, a 9.1 percent year-on-year rise.

Remittances to Guatemala grow by 8.69 percent

Despite the worldwide economic slowdown, remittances to families in Guatemala from members who live abroad have grown by 8.69 percent for the January-June period this year.

However, the rate of growth is down a bit from last year, when remittances increased by 12.64 percent year-over-year.
