Central American businesses demand from governments clear mechanisms to combat insecurity in the region.

The president of the Federation of Private Entities of Central America, Panama and Dominican Republic (FEDEPRICAP), Carlos Amador, said, "Central America is threatened by drug trafficking, gangs and transnational organized crime and to help combat these problems there is an need for a united isthmus."

"Amador stated that the Democratic Security Treaty signed in 1995 must be updated and strengthen and the Federation of Central American Armed Forces should be transformed into an institution which analyzes and creates proposals for the defense of the Central American territory," reported the article in Prensalibre.com.

New Financial Chamber in El Salvador

The financial private sector created the Chamber of Associations of the Financial Sector of El Salvador.

It aims to group all the country’s financial associations and interact with the future single superintendence, which will combine the three that exist now.

It is composed of the banking, pensions, insurance and stock brokers associations (Abansa, Asafondos, ASES and Acabolsa).

First Regional Meeting of Business Chambers

The event will be held on 25 and 26 August in Guatemala and is supported by the German BFZ foundation.

The regional coordinator, Alberto Zeni, commented that during the meeting, the "Consolidate" project results will be announced by business chambers from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

New Franchise Association in Costa Rica

February 2010

Acofra, the Costa Rican Franchises Association, was created on February 3.

It aims to promote the franchising model in the country.

In a press release, its representative, José Andrés Masís, explained that the organization looks to connect franchisers, franchisees, consultants and suppliers of goods and services.
