Tecnoquímicas Purchases Teramed Laboratories

Tecnoquímicas, Colombia's largest pharmaceutical company, announced the $30 million purchase of El Salvador's Teramed Laboratories.

Emilio Sardi, vicepresident of Tecnoquímicas, announced the purchase of the Salvadoran laboratory as part of their expansion plan through Central America. They intend to triplicate their sales in the next five years.

Sardi told newspaper "El Periódico": "The idea is to enter the smallest markets first, and then move to the larger countries, but it is a slow process, that depends on the circumstances of each country".

Salvadoran Pharmaceutical companies create export consortium

Five pharmaceutical laboratories set up the Affluentes consortium to export to three countries in the Caribbean Community starting next year.

Affluentes, S.A. de C.V. is comprised of HealthCo, Paill, Gamma, Teramed and Pazepharm Laboratories. Some of these laboratories already export to Central America, USA, Dominican Republic, Panama and Belize but anticipate good business opportunities in the Caribbean and South America.

Faryvet Laboratories is a company that has traditionally operated in the veterinary drug market, but through an investment of $1.5 million in a new premix plant in Barreal de Heredia, plans to triple its production, make the process 100% automated, and enter the field of animal nutrition and medicines for humans.

Latin America Intends to Harmonize Medication Controls

Over 100 experts from Latin America and the United States, plus observers from Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Spain and Austria, participated in the III annual conference for pharmaceutical regulation in the region.

The event was organized by the Food and Drug Administration of the U.S. and sponsored by the Panamanian Health Ministry. Participants discussed drug control, registry, verification and supply chain security.
