Tender for Biogas Plant Feasibility Study

In El Salvador, the Lempa River’s Executive Hydroelectricity Committee has announced a tender for a feasibility study to identify alternatives for the location of the project.

The study will include the identification of alternatives for the project location, quantification and characterization of wastewater and organic solid waste, identification of alternative technologies for the potential production of biogas and electricity in at least four strategic points in the basin, estimation of the investments required and analysis of the project’s economic, environmental and social benefits.

The date scheduled for submission of bids is 9 January 2012.

Biogas Program Launched in Nicaragua

The IADB, together with other organizations, has launched a $ 6.3 million initiative to develop a market for biogas which will provide renewable energy for small farmers in Nicaragua.

A press release from the Inter-American Development Bank reads:

The Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the IDB Group, has partnered with the Nordic Development Fund and two Dutch NGO’s, Hivos and SNV, to launch a $ 6.3 million initiative to develop a biogas market to provide renewable energy to small farmers in Nicaragua and will contribute to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.

El Salvador Tenders Solar Energy Projects

January 2011

Bidding for the installation of solar panels at the Cerron Grande and 15 de Setiembre dams will take place in February.

Luis Garcia, manager of the renewable energy department of the Executive Hydroelectric Commission of Río Lempa (CEL), said that with the installation of the panels on the two hydroelectric power plants approximately 0.5 MW will be generated.

Potential for 84 MW in Small Hydro Power Plants

September 2009

In El Salvador, a study stated the feasibility of generating 84.8 MW of effective power through 67 small hydroelectric power plants.

The research was conducted by the Executive Commission of the Lempa River (known as Cel) together with local university UCA, and shows the potential for renewable energy generation, specially applicable to rural electrification projects.
