Tender for Duty Free Shops at Tocumen Airport

During the month of January commercial premises at the north terminal of Tocumen International Airport, Panama, will be put out to tender.

In total, 18 stores will be put out for tender, and include stores for clothing, jewelry, sporting goods, and children clothes and toy shops.

"Juan Carlos Pino, manager of Tocumen, SA, said it will use the turnkey scheme to award the business premises. Although the exact figure for these tenders has not been detailed, they expect it to be an important sum” , outlined an article in Prensa.com.

Companies such as Carolina Herrera, Mont Blanc, Cartier and Prada have shown interest in participating in the tender.

Space in the duty free section of the Panamanian international airport is being given in concession via tenders where bids are in the millions.

An offer has been made by Waked International Inc. (Wisa) superseding that of Motta International in a tender for 80 meters of commercial space in the north terminal of Tocumen International Airport.

The Government will select the companies who will have a presence at the North Terminal and the concessions will be granted under the mechanism of an "invitation".

Airport management said the bylaws of the terminal allows these direct contracts, side stepping the mechanisms of PanamáCompra. A shortlist of companies has been made and they have been invited based on their previous experiences.

Later this month will see the auction of shop spaces in a tax-free area at Panama's Tocumen International Airport.

The sectors invited to participate in the bidding process are, consumer electronics, perfume, leather goods and spirits.

"In the meantime, Tocumen’s management board have approved direct negotiations for the installation of the stores for Sony, Apple and Rolex.

Panama: Concessionary Award Offered for Duty Free Shops

Tocumen Airport’s administration has announced a concessionary award for shops selling luxury leather goods.

Businesses have until November 11 to request the conditions. The date of submission of bids is scheduled for December 20.

The new annex will have 14 modules in which there are plans to install at least 25 stores in the duty free area, or tax-free zone", Alex E. Hernandez told Prensa.com.
