A statement from the National Chamber of Tourism reads:
Businesses in the tourism sector consider it vital to maintain a presence in the Spanish market.
• Tortuguero, Arenal and Monteverde are the regions that receive the most visitors from Spain.
• According to business people, Spanish travelers stay around 10 nights in the country.

Staying competitive by attracting tourism from Spain, even though this country is going through a difficult time economically, is the main reason that Costa Rican tourism businesses will be participating in the Thirty-second edition of the International Tourism Fair, Fitur, which will take place from 18th to 22nd January in Madrid.
According to the fair’s official website http://www.ifema.es/ferias/fitur/default.html, 57 Costa Rican companies are registered, from the areas of accommodation, tour operators, travel agencies, car rental firms, marketing companies, media, and also prsent will be the National Chamber of Tourism, the Costa Rican Institute of Tourism and other chambers and associations from the industry.
"It is a meeting place for establishing and consolidating business, where every company, in addition to work towards its goals, also becomes a general promotion for Costa Rica as a tourist destination. It is one of the most important tourism fairs in the world, so it is definitely very competitive," said Juan Carlos Ramos, President of CANATUR.

The country is promoting in Europe its new fiscal incentives for tourism investments.
Nicaragua gets just 10% of its visitors from Europe. 30% are from the U.S and the remaining 60% from Central America.
Mario Salina, Nicaraguan tourism Ministry, and ProNicaragua’s tourism advisor, Laureano Ortega, explained the new incentives plan, which includes “fiscal incentives, easier red tape, … and the new Coasts Law”, reported Prensa.com.

At the International Tourism Fair of Madrid 2012 (FITUR), the region is jointly aiming to give impetus to sustainable tourism.
The Costa Rican Tourism Minister, Alan Flores Moya said one of the objectives is to present the region as multi cultural and nature filled.
"Aside from presenting the national plans of each Central American country, Panama, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Belize will be in the Spanish capital targeting the European market as one of their preferred customers, as several ministers told Efe Tourism in the region.
