Tocumen Project Attracts 11 Companies

The complex will be developed in a 300 hectare area, which was purchased by Tocumen SA for $109 million.

A press release from the Tourism Authority of Panama reads:

After completion of the North Terminal, the next projects planned by Tocumen are the airport city "Aeropolis" and the Dock and South Terminal, valued at approximately $750 million.

The "Aeropolis" project, consisting of commercial, hotel and hospital infrastructure, requires around $400 million, while the Dock and South Terminal is expected to cost $350.

Although all the details of the "Aeropolis" project, which will be located in the 300 hectares that Tocumen bought for $109 million from the University of Panama, are not yet known, the number of companies interested in setting up in the airport city increases month by month.

Up until the end of 2011, seven chains had come forward, as well as a health company and at least three companies with experience in managing shopping centers, confirmed the manager of Tocumen, SA, Juan Carlos Pino. Among the hotel chains who have expressed interest in establishing themselves in the area are Decameron, Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott.

Panama to Build Airport City at Tocumen

The project seeks to turn the air terminal into a business, commerce, health tourism and logistics hub.

Panama’s government, through company Tocumen S.A., will begin by acquiring 325 hectares of land currently owned by the University of Panama for $109 million.

Juan Carlos Pino, CEO of Tocumen S.A., explained that this historic transaction will be the first step in transforming Tocumen into an airport city, which will include shopping malls, convention centers and health tourism infrastructure.

Tocumen Could Buy 300 Hectares

Tocumen International Airport would be negotiating the purchase of 300 hectares of land for its expansion plan.

The lots are owned by the University of Panama (Universidad de Panamá), who would be engaged in conversations with the Airport's administration to close the deal.

The project includes the construction of a hotel, conference center and a hospital in the region of the capital's international airport, Tocumen.

The 300 hectare construction site was purchased by the Tocumen Airport Administration from the University of Panama for $109 million.

With an investment of $100 million the works of the Panama Airport North Terminal have been inaugurated.
