U.S. City of Laredo Promoted as Logistics Center

Authorities from the city of Laredo are touring Central America, promoting their city as a logistical center for the region.

Laredo manages 12.000 containers a day, it is the sixth largest customs district in the U.S. and handles 60% of all Mexican exports.

Héctor Vargas, city representative, explained: "We manage the U.S. central corridor, which starts in Laredo, Texas (Mexican border) and ends in Canada. We offer logistical solutions for Central America".

Colombia’s Commerce vice minister remarked that his country is interested in Panama’s logistic potential.

He visited the country, and toured the Colon Free Zone, analyzing the competitive advantages of operating from Panama.

"By the end of the encounter, the Panamanian Government announced they signed a framework document for negotiating a Free Trade Agreement", reported Laestrella.com.pa.

TOC Americas 2011 Panama Begins

The TOC Container Supply Chain Americas conference will be held November 15-17 at the El Panama hotel, Panama City.

With the theme of "Redefining the logistics scene in the region," the three-day conference will seek to discover a source of revenue for the much-needed infrastructure improvements throughout the region, to understand the connectivity of land transport networks, and to develop strategies for coping with continuing increases in the volume and size of ships.
