Walmart Opens New Store in Costa Rica

With an investment of $9 million, the retail multinational has opened a new supermarket in its Mas x Menos brand.

Located in San Antonio de Belén, the new site has an area of 9677 square meters, and 199 parking spaces.

"This inauguration is part of Walmart's growth plans for 2011, which anticipate an eventual investment of $160 million", states an article on Elfinancierocr.com.

The opening of this store has generated 102 new jobs.

With an investment of $46 million, the retail multinational has opened its first ‘Maxi Despensa’ format supermarket in Honduras.

The supermarket, which is the 600th in Central America in this format, will offer low-cost products.

Walmart to Invest $84 Million in Guatemala

The multinational retail company has announced the opening of 25 new stores in the country.

By the end of 2011, Walmart will open 25 new stores, bringing to 200 the total number in Guatemala. It will also carry out remodeling works at its hypermarket style stores branded Maxi Bodega and Despensa Familiar, according to Alberto Ebrard, executive vice-president and general manager for the firm's Mexican and Central American operations.

New Walmart Store in Nicaragua

The multinational retailer has opened a new ‘Pali’ store, which forms part of the announced investment of $54 million in the country.

With an investment of one million dollars the new store, Pali Santo Domingo, generated 16 jobs.

"'Walmart, with this penultimate opening in 2011, has demonstrated its loyalty to Nicaraguans and their confidence in the country", said Eduardo Garcia, manager of corporate affairs for Walmart Mexico and Central America'", reported Laprensa.com.

El Salvador: Walmart Construction Authorized

December 2011

Several years after requesting permits, the multinational has received permission to build a new supermarket in Mejicanos, with an investment of $15 million.

Last May, Claudia Ibanez, manager of corporate affairs at Walmart El Salvador, told the media that four years ago, the Ministry of Environment approved the construction.
