The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and Banco Ficohsa have signed a credit line to support continued access to long-term financing by SMEs.

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the Banco Financiera Comercial SA Honduras (Banco Ficohsa) yesterday signed an agreement for a line of $10 million credit to support continued access to long-term financing by Small and Medium Companies (SMEs) in Honduras.

The Rural Development Bank (Banrural) and the off shore bank Mercom Bank Ltd., will fund luxury tourism projects on the Honduran coast.
Banrural will participate in the financing of the project's Los Micos Beach in Bahía de Tela and Mercom Bank Ltd of the financial group Agromercantil, will fund the project ‘Pristine Bay Resort, Golf & Spa’ on the island of Roatan, Honduras.

The Honduran banking group has opened its first regional agency in the Panamanian banking center.

The IDB approved a loan to Ficohsa Bank in order to fund renewable energy projects.
Corporations and companies will have access to the line of credit to finance renewable energy ventures.
Javier Atala, senior executive vice president and general manager Ficohsa Bank, told La Tribuna: "The green line will contribute to the financing of renewable energy projects, transformation of existing production units to more energy efficient schemes, which continue to innovate products and services for our customers according to our institutional values.”

IFC will finance part of $ 44 million in road repairs in Tegucigalpa and Comayaguela.
The money will be channeled through three local banks: Ficohsa, Atlantida and Banco de Occidente, covering 36% of the $ 44 million credit loan the municipalities have with these banks.

To support the economic sector of Honduras, Ficohsa Bank is opening new financing options with funds from Banhprovi.
The funds from the Honduran Bank for Production and Housing (Banhprovi) that are available through lines of credit at Ficohsa Bank are designated for urbanization and housing construction projects as well as for the construction of commercial real estate for farming or industrial distribution centers, among others.

The campaign is focused on pre-approval of housing loans in 20 minutes through the BANHPROVI (Honduran Production and Housing Bank) credit line, with an interest rate of 10% during a period of up to 20 years.
Digital Process published on its website: "It was explained that customers interested in these loans can go to any Ficohsa agency at a national level with a copy of their ID card, proof of income with detailed deductions and a credit application. The customer will have an answer in 20 minutes upon presenting the documentation. "

Honduran banks reported $11.3 billion in assets at the end of 2008, an increase of 11%.
The National Banking and Insurance Commission reported the results for 2008, in which Bac-Bamer Bank topped the list with $1.8 billion in assets, followed by Atlantida Bank with $1.6 billion and Ficohsa with $1.55 billion.

Fitch upgraded long term and short term ratings for FICOHSA bank to A-(hnd) and F1(hnd), up from BBB+(hnd) and F2(hnd), respectively.
At the same time it also upgraded the ratings for FICOHSA Corporate Bonds from BBB+(hnd) to A-(hnd). The outlook assigned is stable.
The new ratings reflex the strengthening of FICOHSA bank's networth, improvements in financial performance, and the strengthening of its participation in the commercial banking system market in Honduras.

The Banco Financiera Comercial Hondureña S.A. (Ficohsa) and Guatemala's Banco GT Continental, together with several local banks, including Atlántida, BAC-Bamer, GTC Bank, Banco Aliado and Tower Bank, have put together a syndicated loan of 77 million dollars for Corporación Dinant.
The funds will be used for investment in plant and agro-industry. Surplus funds will be used for publicity and marketing.
