A collection system and treatment plant should be operational in 2014, allowing the decontamination of Panama Bay and its tributaries.
The project will require $600 million and is reportedly 80% complete.
An article in Prensa.com reports that "At a cost of $245 million, the plant is projected to perform to high standards until 2035, when it must then expand its capacity. The facilities occupy 35 acres in the village of Juan Diaz and are designed to treat 50 million gallons per day. "

Panama will be able to take advantage of new markets opening in 2012.
The possible absence of the Kyoto Protocol will not prevent carbon bond issuers, such as Panama, from finding new buyers for the credits.
This seems to be the general consensus of experts on global climate change, who have stated that new stakeholders have emerged to purchase these bonds, traditionally sold to European countries.

The energy minister said that analysis of the information shows hydrocarbon fields in Bocas del Toro, Azuero, in the Gulf of Darien, and the Caribbean Coast.
The National Secretariat of Energy had hired the company to OTS, with funding from the Corporation Andina de Fomento (CAF), to rearrange, classify and analyze the existing information on oil exploration.

Over 30 companies participated in the act of approval for the construction of the Aerodrome in Rio Hato, Panama.

The Civil Aviation Authority will put out to tender before the end of June the construction of an airport in the village of Rio Hato.
Maricella Martinez, an executive at the Aviation Authority said they hope to give the order to proceed between August and September.

The financial institution announced the placement of $40 million in the local market, the first outlay by a multilateral in the country.

CAF approved funds for construction of Metro Line 1 in Panama City.
Enrique Garcia, CAF´s CEO, stated: "By supporting this project, CAF aims to significantly contribute to the improvement in the quality of life of Panamanians, especially those living in remote areas of the city center. The metro will reduce their travel time, contribute to the mitigation of pollution generated by current transportation and facilitate other activities which take place in the city with a positive impact on levels of competitiveness."

The CAF loan is aimed at improving health conditions and support economic and urban development in the province of Panama.

The Legislative approved a loan from the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) to build a road that will link the Caribbean with the country’s north.
The money will be administered by the Costa Rican Public Works Ministry, and will be used to develop the highway project, known as “Bajos de Chilamate – Vuelta Kooper”.

Four financial institutions have confirmed their interest in the Panamanian Metro project.
Frank de Lima, vice minister of Finances, stated that the project has secured the necessary funding. The Inter-American Development bank is willing to contribute up to $600 million, the Andean Development Corporation $400 million, the European Investment Bank $240 million, and Citibank up to $250 million.

Several infrastructure projects cannot be started until the Legislative Assembly approves a $850 million loan from the IDB and a $52 million one from CAF.
These projects are the highway to Heredia, the new road to San Carlos, the link between Bajos de Chilamate-Vuelta Kooper, concluding the northern Ring Road (Circunvalación) and enlarging the Florencio del Castillo Highway.
