The loan will assist in preservation of health and education in the event of natural disasters.
This emergency project will provide funds to pay salaries of health workers and teachers in the poorest municipalities of the country, assisting in keeping health centers and care facilities operational and to ensure educational coverage for 2.8 million children, while the government uses financial resources for reconstruction efforts.

Seminar covering best practices in agricultural value chains and financing its components.
The seminar is being organized to take place in Costa Rica in the second half of November, 2009.
The target audience will be representatives of financial entities active in the agricultural sector, non-financial companies with a stake in the sector (producers, cooperatives, processors, exporters, marketers, input suppliers), Government authorities, business chambers, non-governmental organizations, international organizations and academic the use of agricultural value chains as a mechanism for offering financial services to all the stakeholders involved.

Small-business suppliers of Costa Rica's Café Britt travel, souvenir and coffee retailer are to be offered US$1 million in loans from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE).
The loans are to be offered under an agreement between Café Britt and the BCIE. Café Britt will back the loans.
