CEOs and senior executives have pledged to expand trade and investment in view of the global economic slowdown.
Central America and the Caribbean together represent a market of approximately 56 million people. According to the Secretary General Albert Ramdin, it is time to exploit all business opportunities and implement specific initiatives to expand trade and investment between both regions. "To accomplish this, the governments of both parties must be willing to review the existing trade environment and reduce the barriers. At the same time, the private sector must be ready to establish creative relationships with their counterparts," said Ambassador Ramdin.

The company begain operations in Costa Rica in order to be close to the fruit growers.
In order to strengthen its position and generate new business alliances in the region, the Don Limon company has decided to settle in Costa Rica, where it recently partnered with Tropical Fruit Marketing.
Currently, Don Limon’s best positioned product is the Costa Rican pineapple, which is exported to Europe, specifically Germany, Russia and Canada.

Three cooperatives that supply supermarkets have joined together to increase efficiency and compete better.
Walmart's arrival to the region generated nervousness in the supermarket industry, and business have not delayed in creating alliances in order to face up to the new competition.
Such is the case of Union Cooperative Supermarket West, a grouping of three Cooperatives (Coopepalmares, Coopronaranjo and Coopeatenas), created last year to join forces and improve its market position.

Cable Onda's general manager, Nicolás González Revilla, has indicated that the company is currently holding discussions with Digicel, Claro and Telefónica and predict that by the end of the year they will be able to offer joint products.

The Panamanian Chamber of Commerce and the Thai trade office have signed an agreement that seeks to build closer commercial relationships.
The agreement includes plans to exchange information about investment opportunities and initiate trade missions to incentivize commerce between both countries.
“The agreement provides the basis for the Panamanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (CCIAP) and the Thai institution to work together to support the organization of events such as exhibitions and trade fairs,” comments Pa-digital.com.pa.

Associations of Salvadoran and Ecuadorian exporters have signed an agreement to encourage trade.
The agreement will last a year and seeks to strengthen the commercial relationship between the countries by implementing actions that will lead to a sustained increase in trade.

The Cooperative of Palm Growers of Chiriquí (Coopemapachi), from Panama, forged an alliance with "Fraccionadora de Occidente", from Nicaragua.
The palm growers will sell them raw materials, and the Nicaraguan company will supply them with palm oil products to sell in Panama.

This commercial alliance aims to assist Nicaraguan small and medium industrial companies.
Signed between NACC (American Nicaraguan Chamber of Commerce) and CADIN (Nicaraguan Chamber of Industries), the alliance looks to foster and promote bilateral trade.
Alfonso Oviedo, NACC president, commented that "the alliance will strengthen trade and exporting mechanisms for SMEs. We are working on opening markets in the U.S. and advising them on exporting requirements".

With this alliance, Wal-Mart will promote the inclusion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of the region in its international suppliers network.
Under the terms of the agreement it signed with Fecaexca, the Federation of Central American Chambers of Exporters, the company will train SMEs in international commerce and make them part of its business rounds, so they can become Wal-Mart suppliers outside of Central America.
