The company Terminal de Granos del Pacífico has increased the capacity of its warehouses to store 14,000 more tons of flour and grains.
The company Pacific Grain Terminal (Terpac) now has larger warehouses in Puerto Quetzal, Escuintla, Guatemala, which provides a greater capacity for receiving and handling imported flours and grains.

ICS member companies fear a further negative impact from the effects of the global economic crisis, if Panama applies a toll hike from July 1.
The International Chamber of Shipping companies (ICS), the largest international shipping association, has asked the Panama Canal Authority (ACP in Spanish) to postpone the increase in tolls of 15%, whose first phase has been announced for 1 July.

The Costa Rican Oil Refinery has given the order for the start of consortium works to the consortium ICA-MECO ( ICA Ingenieros Civiles Asociados de C.V-Constructora Meco S.A)
A statement from the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE) reads:
On May 15 the order was given for the proposed expansion of the Atlantic port terminal, awarded to the consortium ICA-MECO (ICA Ingenieros Civiles Asociados de C.V-Constructora Meco S.A).

Costa Rica has fallen in the ranking of world logistics, and the main reason is the low efficiency of the processes in their customs clearance.
Costa Rica dropped to position 92 of 155 economies and obtained a score of 2.75 points, the ranking goes from 0 to 5, with 5 being the highest rating-on the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2012 by the World Bank which evaluates 6 areas reported Elfinancierocr.com.

Port operators are protesting over the expected collection of $5 to $10 for the examination of each container using a scanner, which takes away competitiveness.
Payments to cover the costs of maintaining two scanners have created differences between port operators and the National Customs Authority (ANA in Spanish). One is in the port of Balboa and the other in Manzanillo International Terminal in Colon.

Leading Latin America, the ports of Colon and Balboa have the largest volume of containers moved, with Santos of Brazil in third place.
Of the 20 major ports in Latin America, Colon (MIT, Evergreen and Cristóbal) was placed first with 3.3 million TEUs or 20 foot long containers mobilized in 2011, followed by Balboa with 3.2 million and Santos (Brazil) 2.9 million, reported Prensa.com.

International experts say that Panama needs more logistics parks on the Pacific coast in order to fully exploit all the country's advantages.

The Ministry of Transport of El Salvador has begun a project to integrate the policies of airways and ports sectors.

Dario Gamez, manager of the state National Port Company (ENP in Spanish), said the company will soon be inviting bids for the purchase of equipment for modernization of the dock 5 or the bulk dock at Puerto Cortes.
