U.S. health authorities have granted sanitary approval for ready to eat products containing beef.
A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Trade reads:
In order to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the North American Free Trade Agreement between Central America and the Dominican Republic (CAFTA-DR), Costa Rica has carried out various tasks in order to be able to export traditional products with higher added value. As a result of these efforts, health authorities in the United States issued on December 5 the sanitary approval for Costa Rica, opening their market to imports of ready to eat products containing beef.

Coca Cola FEMSA is planning to harness the potential of Latin America and make an aggressive expansion in the region, by backing dairy products.
Jose Castro, director of investor relations at the company, at an annual meeting with the media, said that after the acquisition of Blue Star Panama in March, the company will build a new plant in Panama and by the end of the year will have defined its business plan for achieving their expansion plans.

So far 2011, Canada is the second largest trading partner, with a total of $ 55 million in exports from January to March.
During the same period of 2010, the amount of sales to that country amounted to $ 16.8 million.
Despite improvement in exports, María José Guerrero, executive at the Center for Exports and Investment said it is necessary to increase the number of exportable products in order to increase sales.

Nicaragua’s only salt producer is planning its expansion to Costa Rica and Honduras.
Oscar Vargas, CEO of Nicasa, (mixed company owned by Unión Fenosa and Albanisa), explained they have invested $2.6 million in the production plant, and are now capable of producing 550 quintals per hour, with 99% purity.

Both countries confirmed the agreement, after finally finding common ground in the last remaining issue: financial services.
In the last negotiation round, which took place in Costa Rica from January 8th to 15th, both parties accorded all the texts of the treaty. The only issue remaining was a pending proposal related to investment services, which was solved later via phone communication between both Ministers.
