In Costa Rica more and more people are becoming clients of cinemas, having increased their visits by 30% since 2007.
National cinemas sold 5,172,420 tickets in 2011, 1% more than in 2010 and 30% more compared with 2007, according to data from the local film distributor, Discine.

The Commission to Promote Competition has opened an investigation into the international company, which has been accused by pork producers in Costa Rica of setting the prices of pork cuts below the market price.
The Commission to Promote Competition (COPROCOM) agreed to initiate a preliminary investigation against the supermarket chain Wal-Mart for alleged monopolistic practices, reported Nacion.com.

Brewers have reasons to celebrate: per capita consumption grew from 77 to 80 liters in 2011 and production increased by 5%.
Beer is the preferred alcoholic beverage in Panama, with its production having grown by 5.1% (above the average of 2% of the rest of Latin America) in 2011, reported Capital.com.pa.
The market is worth more than $390 million a year and is controlled by two large companies: Cervecería Nacional, a subsidiary of SABMiller, and Cervecería Barú- Panamá, under the control of Heineken NV. Last year they produced 247.2 million liters of beer, 5.1% more than in 2010, significantly higher than seco (6 million liters) and rum (7.2 million liters), according to data supplied by the Controller General.

The Expo-Decore mall, due to open in November, will have an area of more than 24,000 m2 and will be dedicated to all aspects of home decoration and furnishings.

In Costa Rica, Megasuper, Walmart and AutoMercado are preparing to open more stores in the capital and surrounding areas.

The Mexican and Central America division of the retail giant plans to invest almost $1.5 billion in the six countries of their jurisdiction, adding over 400 stores to the chain.

With an investment of $1.4 billion, it aims to open 410 to 436 new stores in its geographical area of coverage (6 countries), generating 25,000 direct jobs and 52,000 indirect ones via building construction. Florida Ice & Farm, without disclosing the amount of the investment, has announced the purchase of the Musmanni Corporation, which owns the bakery of the same name in Costa Rica.
With the acquisition, Fifco acquires control of 30 branches operating in the country. There are 150 other stores operating under a franchise.
