An agreement between the Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce and the Guatemalan Association of Franchising aims to promote the model in order to achieve growth by opening up new markets.
Aida Rios, president of the Guatemalan Association of Franchises (AGF in Spanish), said the support of the GCC will allow companies interested in franchising to compete in other countries, improve financing options and project their image at events.

The franchise company QSR International is to open 15 new stores during 2012, and invest in the remodeling and reopening of three others.
QSR International, which owns the fast-food franchise KFC and Quizno's Sub in the region, will open 8 new KFC restaurants and 7 new Quizno's outlets in Costa Rica.

After suffering a sharp drop in demand over the last two years, there has been an increase in enrollment in courses for learning English.
Enrollment in private schools teaching English and other languages fell heavily since 2009, but now the situation seems to be improving.
Karl Schmack, executive director of Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano (CCCN, 10 sites around the country), recognizes that it was late last year and early this year that the enrollment rate recovered after having suffered a decline starting in 2009. Today, the CCCN hosts some 5,000 students per quarter, up from 10% to 15% compared to previous years.

The Guatemalan Association of Franchises expects the arrival of six new franchises in the country, representing investments of $10 million.
