Seven big events will be held in San Pedro Sula between May and July, encouraging tourism and the hospitality sectors.

The hotel chain is to build a new premises and two existing ones are to be renamed to join the chain, meaning that there will be seven hotels in the canal country.
The economic boom around the Canal expansion and the expected arrival of more leisure and business tourists with high purchasing power, has attracted the attention of the multinational chain Marriott, which will soon have 7 hotels in Panama.

The Colombian hotel chain has announced its entry into the Costa Rican market with the opening of two hotels.
According to a publication in the Colombian newspaper, El Tiempo, the openings will be in the first half of this year in San Jose and Jaco.

The 36 room Hotel Los Portales, required an investment of $3.2 million.
The new colonial style hotel is a family business run by Teodoro Picado and his wife Maria Torres de Picado, who spent $3.2 million on it. It has two floors with 3,400 m2 and a capacity of 100 people in 36 rooms.

The Trujillo Beach Eco-Development has been announced, with an investment of $50 million in an 600 hectare area which will feature residences for Canadian and Israeli citizens, in the form of condominiums and a hotel.

The real estate firm Kirebe is to build a Wyndham Garden Hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The new hotel will be located in Escazú, on land adjacent to Play and EPA, and will open its doors in August, according to the plans of the property firm Kirebe, which has previously specialized in residential condominiums.

The Colombian Decameron Group is expanding its investments in Latin America in 2012, including the opening of two hotels in Costa Rica and one in Panama.
In Costa Rica, Decameron will open this year a 330-room Royal Decameron Irazu in San Jose, and one in Jaco Beach, with 130 rooms.

Incentives will be discontinued for the installation of hostels in the city of Panama, which have proliferated in areas classified as residential.
In Panama there are now 180 hostels, 61 of them in Panama City. While luxury hotels do not consider them competition, tourism officials want to discourage the creation of this type of small scale accommodation, which has emerged even in areas considered ‘exclusive’.
